Club-Hosted Kendo Kyu Grading

Event Date: 23rd January 2024 to 11th February 2024

Venue: NSWKA Clubs

This is a friendly reminder to schedule a Club-Hosted Kendo Kyu grading for Rokkyu to Sankyu (6 Kyu to 3 Kyu) between late January and early February 2024. It is essential to ensure that your club-hosted Kendo Kyu Grading is hosted within the mentioned time frame to ensure that your club members have the opportunity to take their subsequent grading at the NSW State Kendo Grading on 4th May 2024.

We encourage clubs hosting gradings to invite applicants from other NSWKA clubs to participate.

Grading Rule Update

We want to bring your attention to some changes made to the kyu grading requirements:

  • Suburi is no longer required for 5th kyu kendo grading.
  • Skipping grades are only permitted at the NSW Kendo Grading – Applicants cannot attempt to do it at club-run gradings.
  • Candidates may ask to attempt the grade skipping at NSWKA-run gradings, but only with the agreement of all grading panels.

Grading Panel

Your club must form a grading panel consisting of three to seven members, with at least one member holding the rank of Godan or higher. We recommend appointing a grading administrator (manager) to oversee the grading process and ensure fairness and impartiality.

Grading Venue Set Up

Please provide sufficient table space for the grading panels to carry out their duties without interruption. If needed, large foldable tables are available for pickup from NSWKA Storage at Leichhardt Storage King.

Financial Assistance

If your club incurs additional costs to hold a club-hosted kendo kyu grading (e.g., venue hiring), NSWKA can provide financial assistance. Please provide proof, such as a tax invoice, when applying.
