Kendo Gradings – Club Hosted Gradings

Dear NSWKA Kendo Club Members,

This provides details regarding the Club-Hosted Kendo Kyu Grading for Rokkyu to Sankyu (6 kyu to 3 Kyu).

Grading Application

  1. Confirm with your club sensei, instructor, or administrator that you meet the grading eligibility requirements.

  • Applicants must maintain continuity of training and membership for the entire period between grades and complete the total time-in-grade.

  1. Apply for your grading by purchasing the exam ticket through the appropriate grading event on Just Go: https://nswka.justgo.com

  • “Events & Courses” and then selecting “Book Your Grading Exam.”

  • If you do not meet the eligibility criteria, the system will prevent you from purchasing the ticket.

  • In case you believe you are eligible but encounter inaccuracies in the system data, please reach out to NSWKA at: executive@nswkendo.org or registration@nswkendo.org.

Grading fees are as follows:

  • Adult: $40 ($20 NSWKA application fee / $20 AKR registration fee)

  • Junior: $20 ($10 NSWKA application fee / $10 AKR registration fee)

Grading Rule Update
We want to bring your attention to some changes made to the kyu grading requirements:

  • Suburi is no longer required for 5th kyu kendo grading.

  • Jumping grades are only permitted at the NSW State Kendo Grading. Applicants cannot attempt the following grade at club-run gradings.

  • Candidates may be asked to attempt the following grade at NSW-run gradings, but only with the agreement of all grading panels.

Grading Result & Certificate

  • Upon successful completion of your grading examination, it is crucial to complete the payment for the grading certificate fee to obtain your certificate. The examination results will be accessible through your Just Go Membership Profile under “My Profile/Credentials.”
  • To make the payment for your certificate, please visit the Just Go Website, navigate to “Events & Courses,” and select “(Your Grade) Kendo Certificate Fee.”
  • Ensure to complete the payment within two weeks from the date your receive your new grading credential. Failure to settle the certificate fee within this timeframe will incur a 20% surcharge as an administrative fee.
